A 'Big Hand' for the 'Need a Hand' team as they
donate a day's work to charity.
It was smiles all round as the Big Hand Day 09 team of skilled operatives rounded off their free day-long charity stint at Motherwell Baptist Church.
The good-will gesture was initiated by local businessman James Gibbons who set up his Motherwell-based Ultimate Handyman business Need a Hand three years ago.
He said proudly: For one day each year, we decided to switch from Need a Hand to Give a Hand a Big Hand to help a local charitable organisation develop a key project.
The church is in the middle of a major improvement and upgrading programme and they needed a helping hand in the washing down and cleaning up between building work and painting and decorating.
| A Big Hand ... as the Rev Derrick Watson thanks James Gibbons (centre-left) and the 'Big Hand' team of (from left) Peter Kilbride, Martin O'Rourke, Louise Middleton, Siobhan Clark and Marie Mocus. | On a high ... thats Need a Hand's Martin O'Rourke as he removes a small shrub from the high gutters on the church roof. | As a business that gets from the community this was an opportunity to put something back into the community and we all got great satisfaction out of it.
It was a great feeling working with people who, like us, know, live and serve the local community and they appreciated what we were trying to do.
Minister, the Rev Derrick Watson, said: The Church has had to address significant building issues and we have been through a rolling programme of improvements for ten months.
When Need a Hand offered to take up this project as their Big Hand Day for 2009 and help with the cleaning aspects of our project, we jumped at the chance.

The team came in, carried out the work on time, very cheerfully, and we are delighted with the result.
We deeply appreciate their contribution, and look forward to having a building that will be functional for people to use.
The inaugural Big Hand Day last year provided considerable benefit for The Bellshill and Mossend YMCA, and the invitation is going out to charitable organisations to put their names forward for The 2010 Big Hand Day.
